Welcome to Howard Kirby's photo site.
Howard Kirby is an amateur photographer who lives in rural part of England close to the Welsh border which is known as The Marches. He specialises in landscapes and weather. Howard has built up experience naturally and uses his knowledge of weather conditions and the local area to help provide the right ingredients for a good photo opportunity.
Howard is currently the Photography Director of The International Journal of Meteorology. (IJMet). See links page.
Howard fits photo sessions in between working both in a full time day job and in his role for the IJMet. A typical photo session often involves driving to, and trecking up the local hills to achieve a shot or series of shots especially when certain conditions are just right - sometimes on impulse. The ultimate and most rewarding session for any photographer who takes a great interest in the weather is convective/storm photography which can ofcourse involve an element of danger but this can be offset by a good sunset/sunrise and the more tranquil moments in the countryside that shallow fog/mist can bring. Other photo sessions which are planned more specifically include trips to the mountains or lakes in Wales where a good walk can be combined with a photo session. Many results of which can be found on this site.
Cameras used have ranged from the Konica Minolta Dimage G600 to the A200 then the Sony DSC R1 but more recently the Canon 450D and a Canon IXUS 960IS.
Some of the best images are selected for a calendar each year of which a limited number have been printed and sold every year since 2006. Details can be found on this website in the Autumn for the 2011 calendar.
Please enjoy browsing through the images on this site and respect the owner’s rights to the images by not copying or using any without permission. Any enquiries can be made through the contact option at the top of the page. Thank you.
Any photographs purchased will have the clickpic watermark removed.
All the best for 2011.
